LEAGUE FOR PEACE
Meeting of Women A meeting of the Women’s International League for Peace was held in Auckland recently, when a large amount of overseas correspondence was dealt with, including news from America, Geneva, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, as well as the minutes of the meeting of the international executive recently held at Prague. From’ England it was reported that the Peace Pledge Union (Canon Sheppard’s) had amalgamated with the War Resisters’ International. The total of New Zealand signatures to the people’s mandate, so far as was known, was 23,044; all the peace societies in the Dominion having assisted to collect them. A fine address entitled “The Cause of War is Economic” was given by Mrs. Irwin, her ideas, as embodied in the following resolution, being heartily endorsed by those present. The resolution stated: “AU peoples of the earth have the right to participate in the wealth of modern production, and the League of Nations should set up a committee to facilitate and control the participation through exchange of products.- Also that the only way to maintain .permanent peace is to enter into an interational pact of mutual assistance against want and poverty.”
