LYCEUM PENWOMEN

Frau Krug Entertained The Penwomen’s Circle of the Lyceum Club had Frau Lilli Krug, of Hamburg, Germany, as their guest yesterday afternoon. Members and friends came to meet her, and she was welcomed by Mrs. W. Bailey, the circle leader. The afternoon was a pleasantly informal one, and proved most interesting as Frau Krug told her listeners about the rise of Germany from the eighteenth century until recent times. A discussion took place after her talk, and Frau Krug had some telling remarks to make concerning this country and her impressions of it. She told of housing schemes in present-day Germany, and said she considered the houses in New Zealand were too big, and that the women had to work toe hard in them. She considered smaller houses and smaller rooms would give the women more time to enjoy outside activities. In the course of discussion interesting sidelights were thrown on places she has visited, among them Vienna of the present day. Her comments on the New Zealand habit of tea-drinking was tW “it is equalled only by the Japanese.” .ifternoon tea was served, and ths guests took the opportunity of meeting and speaking with Frau Krug person ally.
