AMATEUR BILLIARDS

E. A. Josling Wins SmallTable Tourney The final of the Wellington small-table billiards championship tourney, which has been conducted during the past week at the showrooms of Messrs, Billiards Ltd., was played last evening before a fair attendance of onlookers of both sexes. E. A. Josling, who conceded 75 points, defeated H. R. Tunley, 300-287. Tunley was first to strike form, and soon after the start he compiled a break of 54, in which he played a number of difficult strokes and maintained good position throughout. Shortly afterward he added a 39. Up to this stage Josling had had few opportunities, but a little careless play on the part of his opponent enabled him to make a break of 33, which he followed with a series in the vicinity of 15 to 19, which brought him up within striking distance. By steady play, aided by a fortunate run for himself and an unfortunate one for Tunley. Josling brought his figures to 244, to his opponent’s 248, and a little later took the lead. From then on the lead alternated, but Josling ran out with his opponent still requiring 13 points. The best breaks were: Winner, 33, 22, 27; loser, 54 and 39.

The manager of Billiards Ltd. presented the winner with the challenge cup and a small silver replica. The. runner-up was presented with the set of balls with which the final was played, and Mr. A. Armstrong with a cue for making the highest break outside the prize-winners.
