Major-General Sir William SinclairBurgess, General Officer Commanding the New Zealand Military Forces, was a passenger for the north from Wellington yesterday afternoon. The Rev. J. R. Blanchard left Wellington last flight for the north. Mr. 8. b. Stichbury travelled south last night from Wellington. Mr. C. Birch left Wellington last night for the south. ' Mr Eric A. Clark, director of J. Hott,’ Ltd., left for Dunedin last night. Mr A. J. Coleman was a passenger from Wellington last night for the south. Mr, H. W. Piper, new business'supervisor of the A.M.P. Society, left Wellington for the north yesterday by car. Mr. R. M. Hardy, Sydney, arrived at Wellington yesterday by the Marama, and intends spending three months in the Dominion. Mr. R. Trewern, of Wellington, winner of “The Dominion" grand opera contest at the Wellington Competitions, will be a passenger Ln the Awatea, which will leave Wellington to-day for Auckland and Sydney, en route to Ballarat to compete in the “Sun” aria contest.

Mr. Marcus Marks, of Wellington, now on a tour of the United Kingdom, spent the greater part of August in Scotland. Mr. Marks and his two grand-daughters recently- journeyed over the Caledonian Canal, and visited, the field of Culloden and historic Fort William. They anticipate returning to Wellington about Christmas. The Rev. B. J. Williams, chaplain at the Missions to Seamen Institute, Wellington, returned »by the Marama yesterday, after a visit to Melbourne and Sydney While In Melbourne he attended a conference of missions .to seamen chap lalns, but the primary purpose of his visit to Australia was because of his throat, which has been in a relaxed state for about 14 weeks. His voice showed some improvement In Sydney, but it was only temporary, and his throat is still affected. Dr. G- Orbell and Mrs. Orbell, Invercargill, returned to Now Zealand by the Marama which arrived at Wellington yesterday. Dr. Orbell has been absent from New Zealand for some time and has returned to set up in Invercargill as an ophthalmic surgeon. While in England he took a course in eye work at the Moorfleld Hospital, the largest eye hospital in England, where he was successful in obtaining an extra diploma. On the trip from Sydney he was able to render valuable assistance to Captain R. G. Kane, master of the Marama, who had to be operated on hurriedly.
