BILLIARDS TOURNEY

Small-table Semi-finals

The semi-finals of the annual Wellington small-table handicap tournament were concluded last night at Billiards, Limited’s showrooms, before an interested audience. C. Partridge was handicapped to concede 10 points ip 200 to E. A. Josling, but the latter settled down immedintley and ran to points when Partridge had barely begun. It. C. Boyes (rec. 60) showed excellent form when opposed by It. Bull (rec. 80), and, with consistent though not high scoring. ran to points with Bull at 136. H. It. Tunley (rec. 60) beat A. Duncan (rec. 30). Duncan returned the best breaks but Tunley was much more consistent, and won 200-188. There was great interest in the C. C. Peek v. A. Armstrong game, both players being accomplished cueists, with good recent performances. Peek was handicapped to concede 200 points in 525. Armstrong had score called in his favour, 525369. J. Josling and Boyes, in a play-off, played brightly throughout, the decision going to Josling bv 200-133. Best break were: Josling 36. 2D. 24; Boyes, 21. In the second play-off Armstrong looked a certain winner over H. Tunley. when he had gathered the latter.in after conceding the long handicap of 185 in 325. Tunley, however, still had a spurt left, and, producing a beautiful 43, unfinished, he snatched the decision in the last few seconds, 325-272.

To-night at 7.30 the final will be played, when, in a game of 300 up, E. A. Josling (rec. 15) will meet H. R. Tunley (rec. 90). The presentation of awards will follow the decision.
