DANCE PARTY

English Speaking Union Younger Circle A most enjoyable dance party was given by the Younger Circle of the English Speaking Union at the National Club on Saturday night. The lounge and the dance room were attractively decorated with orange and yellow iceland poppies and spring Powers and a cheery fire made the conditions very pleasant. The supper was served buffet style and consisted of hot savouries and other tempting dishes. Fruit cup was also served during the evening and was greatly appreciated. The guests were received by the hostess. Miss D. Tanner (wearing a frock of orange lace with gold lame trimming), and by the lady members of the committee, Misses Kathie Burns (in blue tartan taffeta), Ngaire Blundell (floral georgette with blue velvet sash), and Dorothy Perkins (black velvet skirt with silver lace tunic top). ous novelty dances were greatly enjoyed, the distribution of streamers and other novelties added to the fun. A Spanish dance by Misses Mollie Cook and Winnie Male was very well received. Winners of the various novelty dances were: Mystery Train Monte Carlo, Miss Iris Blundell and Mr. Reeve Watt; Monte Carlo, Miss U. Drogmuller and Mr. Colin McNaught. Competition winners were: Miss Unity Jones and Mr. Frank Pears and Miss G. Davidson. REPERTORY ARTS BALL Au enthusiastic meeting of the general committee of the Repertory Arts Ball to be held in the Town Hall on Friday, October 9, was held in the Repertory rooms last night. Mr. W. S. Wauchop was in the chair. Considerable progress was reported by the various sub-committees. Much interest centred round the decorative scheme, evolved by Miss Ngaire Horton, which gives promise of being both novel and attractive. A number of large decorative panels to be used were displayed. Several of the “stunts” were reported to be in active rehearsal, including a ballet arranged by Miss Beere and a spectacular pageant by Messrs, Redmond Phillips and L. Singleton-Smith. Two dunce bands will feature the latest music and provide some novel effects Entries for the “living poster” parade and the sets of characters are coming in well, and should provide muci amusement. All these features will bi assisted by special lighting effecte. Altogether the ball promises to be one oi the most brilliant of the season.
