1 Varsity Club’s Final Run PRESENTATION OF ' ’ TROPHIES* The Victoria College Harrier Club concluded its runs for the season on Saturday, when members gathered at Kelburn. Most of the club followed Horsley and Clare down Glasgow Street, and along the path through Te Are School to Aro Street; then up Durham Street, down Polhill’s Gully and on to Raroa Roan. Descending to Tinakori Road at the viaduct, the runners returned home via the Botanical Gardens and The Glen. A few members, however, seeking more earnest training for the Bennett event, took a trail of about six miles through Northland, and made a circuit of the wireless hill. At the end of the run the club, for the fifth year in succession, were entertained at afternoon tea by Mr. and Mrs. Dixon, and the club president, Mr. G. F. Dixon, presented the medals and’ trophies won during the season. These were awarded as follows: —Novice race, A. Horsley; Sherwood Cup sealed handicap. J. Gabitee; club championship, D. Cairns; 10,060 metre championship, and 10.000 metre handicap, D. Cairns; runner-up for 10,000 metre handicap, A. Stewart. Two vice-presidents of the club, Messrs. H. McCormick hnd J. O. Shorland, and Mrs. Shorland, were present. The club captain, M. O’Connor, on behalf of the club, made a presentation to Mr. G. C. Sherwood as appreciation of his work in training the club throughout the season. Finally cheers were called for Mr. and Mrs. Shorland, and for Mr. and Mrs. Dixon for their hospitality. 1 C.Y.M. Club Approximately 20 runners assembled at the Knox schoolroom, Lower Hutt, ou Saturday afternoon to take part in the ninc-inile trail laid by H. Walsh and K. Robbie. The runners divided into two packs, followed the paper through Boulcott Street, and skirted the golf links as far as the Taita Hall. First-class country was encountered, grassy swampland and a variety of water jumps adding great enjoyment. Approaching Cemetery Road the trail veered in a southerly direction, and some good, solid running was taken advantage of.'the four miles of road being a good workout in view of next Saturday’s Bennett Memorial road race. Reaching Nai Nai Lane the fast pack were up with the intermediates, and some really fast pacing was much in evidence. The run over, members and their friends were entertained to afternoon tea by Messrs. Smith and Durable, who were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Members are reminded that a mystery run will be held next week from the Hutt Park at 2.30 p.m., for those members not wishing to take part in the Bennett Memorial road race. Wellington Club : The Wellington Harrier Ciub held its annual handicap race for the Resnick Cup, over a course of 34 miles,.ui.Saturday, commencing from St. Michael)? Church, Kelburn. Mr. P. L. It followed the tramline from the bottom of Chaytor Street along the main Karori Road. At Donnell Street it branched off through Vera and Braithwaite Streets, along Birdwood Avenue, and back to Kelburn via thq tunnel and Upland Road. At Donnell Street the runners were well bunched, with I. Newson maintaining a good lead. At Bird wood Avenue the back-markers came up, and R. Wakelin took the lead, followed by 11. Brady, about 70 yards behind. The places were: R. Wakelin (40sec.L 1; H. Brady (20), 2; G. Larsen (1.40), 3. Fastest times were: H. Brady (17.32), 1, R. Wakelin (17.40), 2; J. Murray (18.10), 3. Next Saturday the club will hold its annual dance and prize-giving. The teams for the Bennett Memorial next Saturday will be A team: J. Murray, W. Owens. H. Brady. R. Wakelin, G. Larsen. L. Beere. B team: L. McAuley, G. Sirong, G Rowberry, J. Drawbridge. A. Robinson, S. Ruben. Methodist Club The final of the Methodist harriers held from the residence of Mr. S. Trevethick. Newtown, on Saturday afternoon. provided a fitting close to an enjoyable season. Two packs were dispatched under T Lowes and D. Walker respectively. The slow packs went for a jaunt over the Melrose hills, some five or six miles, while the members of the fast pack put in some solid road training in preparation for the Bennett Memorial road race. Of the elow pack N. Liggot found the gorse-covered hills much to his liking, while C. Derry and AV. Sharpe showed good form. The form of the fast pack was en couraging. and all members, particularly L. Ingram, J. McKinney and C. Kinsilla. performed well. C. Hulston, too appeared to be moving effortlessly. Afternoon tea and the club song brougnto a close a most enjoyable outing.
