GOOD YEAR’S WORK
Petone Fire Brigade Another successful year is recorded in the 45th annual report of the Petone Fire Brigade. The insurance on properties in danger was £22,180, and after deducting £l3B/10/- (covered by insurance) it left an estimated saving of £22,G41/10/-. In the Hutt VaHey Fire Brigades’ Association competitions, the brigade had won the Licensed Victuallers’ Shield, the Camel Bowl, the Nash Cup, and the Stevenson Cup. In the national competitions at Blenheim the brigade’s representatives won the Jenkins Memorial Shield, the War Memorial Shield, the Challenge Shield (5-men event), and the one-man championship cup. Fireman L Horne won the one-man championship against the national champion and the runner-up at Blenheim. This was the first time a one-man event had been won by the Petone brigade in a major demonstration. The following service awards were made during the year:—Geld bar, Superintendent J. P. Gaynor; silver bar. Firemen A, Shardlow and J. Hanna; 5 years’ medals. Firemen L. Hughes and R. House.
