SUCCESSFUL DANCE

Metro-Goldwyn-Maycr A week or two ago many quaintlyillustrated invitations informed a number of dancing enthusiasts “Leo,” the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayvr lion, would roar again on Saturday, July 25—meaning, of course, that the M.-G.-M. staff intended holding its annual dance. The response to the invitations was all that could be desired, and the Mayfair Cabaret was packed almost to overflowing on Saturday night, when scores of cheery parties occupied the many tables and alcoves and spent several happy hours dancing to the strains of an excellent orchestra. Both rooms were used for dancing and presented a gay sight with their little coloured tables, on which stood vases of bright iceland poppies. Round the walls were glittering signs bearing the letters “M-G-M,” these being hung also in the alcoves, over each of which was a replica of the famous lion. The roof garden had been given a special covering to keep out the wintry atmosphere and was comfortably fitted up as a lounge, the blue room also being comfortably furnished for a similar purpose. Supper was served in the Italian room, where hot savouries and other tempting dishes were in great demand. On the walls of the supperroom were placards which said: “Munch, Gang, Munch” —and the “gang” did full justice to the invitation, seeing that it was a cold night and that dancing is such a stimulus to the appetite. The committee responsible for the successful arrangements comprised: Miss M. Browne, who wore a frock of white chiffon; Miss M. Ryan, wearing maize taffeta; Miss J. Ker, in honey crepe satin; Messrs. V. Schumacher, P. McGowan, and J. McDermott. Among the many seen on the dance floor were: Mr. and Mrs. P. Maddock, Mr. V. Schumacher, Mrs. J. M. Young, Mr. and Mrs. Stohr, Mr. and Mrs. Stevenson, Mr. and Mrs. Alan McElwain, Mr. and Mrs.’ T. Cunliffe, Mr. and Mrs. Bonner, Mr. and Mrs. Daly, Mr. and Mrs. J. S.
