Active Trading Last Week AUSTRALIANS EASIER Business was brisk in the investment market last week, and again the lions share of trading was in Australian industrial and trading issues. The market for these, however, was in most cases distinctly easier. Broken Hill I’roprietiuy, for instance, were actively traded, but prices receded steadily from the high level of "6/6 to 72/9 and 73/- on Saturday, while the new issue weakened from 56/6 to 52/9. Australian Glass declined from 95/3 to 90/9, a drop of 4/6 on the week. G. J. Coles also sold freely, but fell away from 82/- to 76/-, recovering on Saturday to "8/6 and <B/8. Electrolytic Zincs were fairly steady for both issues and Dunlop-Perdnaus showed little change. Good business was done in Mort’s Dock, which came back on the dividend list with a distribution ot 3 per cent, for the year. The shares touched 13/6, but eased later to 11/1. Hume Pipe (Australia) showed little change New Zealand industrials were sparingly traded, prices moving within narrow limits. ... .... An interesting feature of last weeks market was a sharp upward movement in P. and 0. deferred stock. Business was done at 27/- and 29/-, compared with 22/9 a year ago. Buyers in Christchurch on Friday went'to 30/-, sellers asking o/higher. , , . A fair amount of business was done m breweries, which were a generally firm market. Staples advanced 1/- to _3o/b following the announcement of the higher interim dividend. Pastorals, meat freezing coal, gas and woollen issues were mostly steady. Very little business was done in insurance shares. Banks were slightly more active last week New Zealands were done between 40/- and 40/7, and the D mortgage issue at 28/6. National of New Zealand sold at 65/6, 64/8 and 65/-, compared with 68/9 a year ago. Commercial of Australia recovered from 18/5 to 18/10, and the preference sold at £9/2/6. and A. were easy at £6/2/-. New South Wales moved between £32/7/6 and £32/I<j/. Australasias sold at £ll/17/6, » nd Actional of Australasia at £7/2/- for the £o paid and £l4/2/- for the £lO paid.
