Work for “Sustenance" Men
Sir, —“Not a Strapping Loafer” will probably get all the work he wants as soon as the Hon. Mr. Semple gets his 4000 miles of State railways passed by Parliament. When that eventuates, Mr. Semple will be independent of the county councils and can carry out all the longneeded improvements for Palmerston North and Manawatu. Our sustenance men will then get work on the new bridge and road for the Makerua swamp main highway from Levin to Palmerston North. Mr. Semple also has supported the Paekakariki coastal, road deviation, and will no doubt assist to carry out the work. Then he has several other deviations, e.g., Waikanae to Paraparauinu, but here he has met local obstruction. He also has several overhead railway bridges promised, e.g., the ramps over the Hutt railway, Porirua, Longburn, and others. So between Wellington and Palmerston North there will b« plenty of work for all the sustenance men as soon as the Government gets started. —I am, etc., CHEER UP. Wellington, July 23.
