Vice-Regal. The following were the guests of their Excellencies the Governor-Gen-eral and Lady Galway at dinner at Government House last evening; The Mayor of Wellington (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop) and Mrs. Hislop. Archdeacon H. St. Barbe Holland (Bishop-designate of Wellington), Mrs. Holland and Miss Holland, Sir Thomas Wilford and Lady Wilford, Captain Vaughan Morgan, R.N., Mr. and Mrs. Herrick (Hastings), Mrs. Knox Gilmer.

Sir George Elliot left Wellington last night on his return to Auckland. Sir James Gunson arrived at Wellington from the south yesterday morning and left at night for Auckland. The Rt. Rev. Dr. G. F. Graham Brown, Bishop in Jerusalem, is expected to arrive in 'Wellington this morning. He will attend the consecration of the Bishop-elect of Wellington to-morrow, also the Bishop’s enthronement on Monday night. To-mor-row night Dr. Graham Brown will preach at St. Paul’s pl-o-Cathedrai and on Wednesday night he will be the chief speaker at a Missionary Society rally in the Y.W.C.A. hall. Dr. A. J. Harrop was reappointed representative of the senate of the University of New Zealand on the council of the Universities Bureau of the British Empire at the meeting of the executive committee of the senate yesterday.

Professor G. S. Peren (principal) and Mr. R. Waters, of Massey Agricultural College, Palmerston North, have left for Southland in connection with official fleece-testing work. They expect to be away for two or three weeks.

Mr. S. A. Wiren travelled south last night from Wellington. Mr. Maurice Myers arrived at Wellington yesterday from Dunedin. Dr. C. E. Coldicutt, Auckland, left Wellington last night for t<he south.

Mr. A. Leigh Hunt has been reelected chairman ot tlie New Zealand Forestry League. Mr. A. T. Donnelly left Wellington last night on his return to Christchurch.

Mr. R. 11. Nesbitt, Australian Trade Commissioner, will arrive from Christchurch by the inter-island express steamer this morning.

Mr. S. J. Collett, assistant-general manager of the Tourist Department, returned to Wellington yesterday morning from Christchurch. Mr. S. G. Stewart, publicity manager of the Railways Department, has returned to Wellington from Christchurch.

Mr. S. J. Wearn, manager of the Goldberg Advertising Agency, Ltd., Christchurch, arrived at Wellington yesterday morning from the south. Mr. J. J. Roberts, president of the Wellington Football Association, left yesterday for Wanganui, to attend the match to-day between the local eleven and the Australian footballers. He will return to Wellington on Monday.

Mr. Bob Jeffs, Y.M.C.A. secretary at the public works camp at Waitaki hydro works, recently passed through Wellington on his way to the Gisborne area, where he will undertake similar service in tbe railway construction camps in that- centre. Mr. J. White, who for the past live and a half years has been a member of the staff of the Wellington Y.M.C.A., has been appointed assistant general secretary of the association. Prior to coming to Wellington, Mr. White served on the secretarial staff of the Melbourne and Perth Y.M.C.A.’s for a period of nine years and a half. Mr. R. A. Macintosh, Auckland, who is director of the Meteor Section of the New Zealand Astronomical Society, has been complimented on his and bis society’s work by the Australian Astronomical Society, and the latter body has afforded him tangible recognition of his work by making him a grant from the Donovan Trust.

Dr. Laurence Li Doggett, who for 40 years has been principal of the Y.M.C.A. Training College in Springfield, Mass., U.S.A., will visit Wellington early in August. Dr. Doggett will address the members of the association at a special gathering to be held on August 6, and the following day he will be tendered a reception by the combined boards of tdie National and Wellington Y.M.C.A.’s. Mr. W. H. Cowper, who was formerly New Zealand manager of the Liverpool and London and Globe Insurance Company, with headquarters at Christchurch, and who has been on a visit to Great Britain, will arrive at Wellington on August 17, and will make a short visit to Christchurch. Mr. Cowper is now stationed at Melbourne with supervision over the Victorian, Tasmanian, South Australian and Western Australian branches of his company,
