ALL ABOUT FOOD
“Diet and Commonseiise,” by Mrs. C. F. Leyel (London: Chatto and Windus). Here is a book on food with a very wide, scope. The writer appears to know all about things to eat, but is quite unprejudiced as regard to any special diet, except for certain diseases. She passes easily from discussing food values, vitamin content, the calorie needs of Hie human body, to interesting recipes for divers occasions Airs. Leyel includes a chapter on children’s diet, and also one which gives suitable foods to be recommended for specific illnesses. As the author is entirely without fads and simply seeks “to summarise and present in simple language the respective merits of al! kinds of foods traditionally used for man's pleasure and physical well-being,” this book should be most useful to all who think intelligently of food.
