Hope Gibbons Shield With Poneke A team holding a comfortable lead of about two minutes from Petone A, the final of a series of three contests, each of 25 miles, between the three Wellington dubs, Petone, Poneke and Port Nicholson, is to be held on the Petone course this afternoon. In the two previous races Poneke A gained fastest time on both occasions, and, if their luck holds good to-day. their chances of annexing the coveted shield appear bright. All riders will wear dub colours: — Petone, light blue; Port Nicholson, black and yellow ; Poneke, red and black. The race is to start at 2.30 p.m. sharp at the Petone Rowing Club sheds, and will finish at about 3.30 p.m, at the same point. Following are the teams: — Poneke A: L. Walsh, R. Dutton. R. Loder.
