BOXING IN WELLINGTON

Keen interest is being aroused in the professional featherweight boxing contest between-the brilliant Australian, Joe Hall, and Wellington’s favourite, Billy Aitken, which has been arranged for next Wednesday. The Rayner-Aitken fight last week packed the Town Hall, and now the Wellington Boxing Association has arranged another match which should leave no seat unoccupied. The capabilities of Aitken, one of the foremost fighters in his weight in the Dominion, arc well known to boxing fans in Wellington, but Hall, who fought bis second match in the Dominion in Hawke’s Bay last night, will be a newcomer to the Wellington ring. He came to this country with a very fine reputation. Holder of the featherweight and junior lightweight titles of Australia, he impressed in his first match at Hastings as being a real master of the ring. During his five years in the professional ranks he lias scored wins over most of the boxers in his class, including such formidable opponents as Jack McDonald, Joe Johnson, and “Spider” Roach. An attractive list of matchings for the preliminaries was announced last night as follows: —T. Heatherington (Tracy’s) v. R. Cameron (Miramar); N. Tanner (Newtown) v. I. Watson (Miramar) ; Fl. Knopt (Newtown) v. T. Adams (Miramar) : G. Bridge (Newtown) v. T. Hansen (Tracy’s); A. Perret (Silverstream) v. D. Glengarry (Newtown): D. Burns (Tartan) v. V. Hatchard (Miramar).
