Results of First Round Following are the results of the first round of the Wellington Union of Publicspeaking Societies’ debating competition: Woburn Debating Society (affirmative) beat Wellington Accountant Student/? Public-speaking Circle in a debate of the question, “That the Influence of the Modern Newspaper is Pernicious. Judge, Mr. C. G. Watson. Law Students’ Society (affirmative) beat Y.M.C.A. Debating Club in a debate on the question, “That Compulsory Unionism is a benefit to the people of New Zealand." Judge, Mr. A. E. Hurley. Hutt Debating Society (affirmative) drew with Marist Brothers’ Old Boys Debating Club in a debate on the question, “That the Creation of a Spirit of Internationalism is essential to World Peace.” Judge, Mr. F. M. Renner.
