REPERTORY PLAY
The committee of the Wellington Repertory Theatre Society are relentless and untiring in pursuit of the best and most suitable plays, and for their next production which is to be staged in the Town . Hall Concert Chamber, in September, and directed by Mr. W. S. Wauchop, they have selected that brilliant farce “The Mask and the Face,” an adaptation by C. B. Fernaid, of “La Maschera e il Volto” by Luigi Chiarelli. “The Mask and the Face” was first produced at Everymans’ Theatre, London, on February 6, 1924, and an unanimous Press and delighted public guaranteed the success which has warranted revivals from time to time, the last being staged at the Royalty in 1934, ten years after its original production. Mr. Wauchop, who happened to be in London at the time, was so impressed that he coupled it with “Richard of Bordeaux” as being likely to appeal to Wellington theatre-goers. A carefully chosen cast, which has been in rehearsal for the past fortnight, will include Messrs. W. S. Wauchop, W. Simm, Warren Toogood, Jasper Baldwin, J. H. Lindon, F. G. Hayes-Townes, C. Y. Bell, John Proudfoot, Mesdames Phyllis Murray, J. G. Young, Craig-Mackenzie. Misses Yvonne Holmes and Evelyn O’Brien. Stage manager, Mr. Ralph Hogg;, properties, Miss Constance Morice; wardrobe, Miss Pauline Shotlander; prompter, Mrs. S. Tansley.
