ST. JOHN AMBULANCE NOTES

Parade Drill Instruction A well-attended meeting of officers and secretaries of all divisions of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, Wellington, was held in the association hall on Tuesday evening. The meeting was called primarily to discuss the recently prepared schedule on ceremonial drill and inspection parade movements. With the aid of charts, Corps Officer C. H. Kidman explained in detail the complete proceduce and discussed several points which required amplification. Two skeleton companies were then formed, with officers taking over in turn, and all movements were carried out as far as possible. In order that divisions should be proficient in drill movements the Corps Superintendent, Mr. F. Elvines, said that arrangements could oe made for nursing divisions to be instructed by corps and ambulance officers. At this meeting it was also announced that Miss Wells, superintendent of the Lower Hutt Division, was prepared to instruct divisions in modern methods of practical bed-making.- sponging of patients and general nursing It was suggested that members of ambulance divisions should combine for this work on a suitable evening. The Wellington South Nursing Division has arranged for Miss Wells to hold a practical evening next Tuesday, and members of all nursing divisions are invited to attend.

Sports Returns. l Seventy-nine members of the brigade were on duty at Wellington sports grounds last Saturday, and 83 cases were treated.

Y.W.C.A. Nursing Division. An interesting meeting was held by the Y.W.C.A. Nursing Division last week, when Dr. C. Gordon Kemp, corps surgeon. conducted the annual re-examina-tion, the two Y.W.C.A. divisions participating.. All members passed with credit. No. 2 Division extended an invitation to the Senior Division to attend the lecture arranged by. a member of the Dental Association for last evening, which wits accepted with thanks. Special demonstrations have been given during the course of the home nursing class by the honorary instructor, Mrs. Russell, assisted by Miss Hiscock. Mrs. Symes and Miss L. Foster on bed-making for special cases, poultice-making, fomentations, peptonising foods, pasteurising foods, making whey, taking temperatures and charting. At the close of the class Dr. Palmer congratulated the students on their keen attention and practical work and wished them success at the forthcoming examination, which will take place next Monday at the Y.W.C.A., Boulcott Street. Divisional members attended the usual sports grounds on Saturday afternoon. At Tanera Crescent (womens hockey), two members were on duty; at Mount Cook (basketball), six members; and at Nairnville Park (rugby), one member. Brooklyn Nursing Division. On July 15, divisional competitions for the Barltrop (improvising individual) and the Platts Mills (squad first-aid) Cups were held,’Dr. B. Wright an.. Mrs. Wright being the judges, and Mrs. Miller assisting with the staging of the individual competition.

The successful competitors were: Individual, Miss R. Redgrave; squad, Misses McNiekle, Redgrave, Wishart and Morgan. Under the supervision of Mrs. Thomson, Mrs. Morgan. Misses Bird. Morgan and Wishart. members are staffing Lyall Bay football ground, many cases receiving attention each Saturday.
