MISS PANGO WINS

Rangitikei Hunt Cup TRACK VERY HEAVY Substantial Totalisator Increase Dominion Special Service. Marton, July 22. The committee of the Rangitikei Hunt Club met this morning to consider postponing its annual racing meeting, but decided to go on. The day was overcast and cold ; a little rain fell, and things underfoot were very wet. Nevertheless a fair crowd was present, and the totalisator returns increased substantially. The going was very heavy. The Hunt Cup Steeples was wou easily by Miss Pango. who stripped well. The only oue who may have troubled her was The Drone, who fell two fences from home when going well. The totalisator handled £3040/10/-, against £1719/10/- last year, an increase of £1221. Won Very Easily. llymgreat won the Riddiford Steeplechase very easily. Flockhart and Airforce were in charge with a round to go.. Flockhart then went to the lead but tired rapidly and Hymgreat passed him five furlongs from home, soou establishing a commanding lead. Flockhart fell at the last fence and Hymgreat ran in an easy winner by 50 yards from Illawarra, with Airforce 30 yards away third and Ngita fourth. Flockhart was so tired that he lay for some time where he fell. Condition Told. Shcmseh, May Song, Princess La Jean, and Bon Sante were well backed for the Glcnmore Maiden Race, and Princess La Jean, who won, paid a good price. • May Song and Airing led to the straight from Princess La Jean, who was l'ollowe«l by Shemseh, Miss Isabel, Ruenzori, and Bon Sante. Prinedss La Jean challenged the leaders soon after turning for home and in a hard finish won narrowly from Airing, with May Song a close third and Ruenzori fourth. Bruceland and Bon Sante were next. Mazzini was badly left at the start. The much-discussed Shemseh ran moderately, not remaining prominent for long. May Song ran a good race and should score soon. The winner was a little more seasoned than some of the others. Alidacre Narrowly. Much the best backed of the Rosebank Hack Hurdles field were Ethiop and Midacre. Ethiop ran poorly but Midacre pulled his backers through. Royal King led for most of the way with Don Erma always handy and -Midacre at the back of the bunch. Half a mile from home Midacre advanced. He followed Royal King and Don Erma into the straight and was close behind them at the last hurdle. Finishing best Midacre won by a neck from Royal King, who was a similar distance ahead of Don Erma. Ethiop was a poor fourth. The ouly other runners were Sir Ronald, who made a bad jump toward the end of the race, and Prince Reno, who was not prominent for long. One for Favourite. Warehi went to the front early in the CfoseWurn Hack Flying, leading from Export, Taumau, Garter Red, and Raeemosus. Warehi was still clear entering the straight where Taumau and Export were next; Maestro was coming fast on the outer and Waipiro was moving up. Maestro finished fast and won easily from AVarehi while Waipiro, who was a moderate third, just beat Taumau. Maestro was backed to favouritism on the strength of his running at Trentham this month, and he won decisively. Warehi made a good effort to win all the way, handling the soft ground well. Race for Hunt Cup. The Rangitikei Hunt Cup Steeplechase was won very easily by Miss Pango. The early leader was Sir Red. who opened a big gap on the field. At the bead of the others was Miss Pango, while Tangled, War Eaglet and Croydon were handy. Sir Red tired quickly, and with a round to go Miss Pango was leading him, and next were Croydon, Don Erma, Tangled and Indiscretion. With six furlongs lo go Miss Pango had drawn clear of Indiscretion, Royal Songster had moved into third place, and Tangled, Croydon, and Don Erma were close up. while The' Drone was moving forward from the rear. Approaching the straight Miss Pango was followed by The Drone, who, however, fell two fences from home, and left Tangled in second place, and Don Erma next. Miss Pango wou very

easily from Don Erma, who in an attempt to steal the race got to within a length and a half of her. Tangled was six lengths away third, Indiscretion fourth, and Croydon and Royal Songster next. Miss Pango had worked well prior to the race, and her victory was expected. Tangled ran a fair race, but was very tired near the finish. Indiscretion, who was strongly fancied, failed to stay, lhe Drone was going well when he fell and would have been first or second. Came Up on Outer. The Otairi Ladies’ Bracelet was very comfortably won by War Ace. Tambo and Nightrunner led into the straight from Oriel, who looked the winner at this stage. War Ace, however, flashed past on tlie outer, and won by four lengths. Tambo was a length and a half away third, and Night Runner was fourth. Oriel ran a good race and should be worth considering at Awapuni on Saturday. „ x Had to Do Best. W. Broughton scored his second win of the day when he got Taillight home in the Springrove Hack Handicap, the last race of the day. . ' Airing led to the straight from Princess la Jean and Donegal, with Middle and Taillight next. Taillight moved up to the leaders smartly a furlong from home, but had to be kicked right out to beat Airing by three-quarters of a length. Princess la Jean, carrying a 31b. rehandicap, was two lengths and a half away third, and Donegal was fourth. Results in Detail RIDDIFORD STEEPLECHASE, of £5 and trophy valued at £l5.
