HOPEFUL RESULTS
New Method of Treating Cancer
By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, June 22.
Hopes of finding a cure for cancer as the result of new lines of investigation were expressed by an Australian, Dr. Neville Davis, who is passing through Auckland by the Aorangi to attend medical .conferences at Ontario and Philadelphia. A new product called ensol, a biochemical, had been discovered and was being made by Dr. Hendry Connell, of Ontario, said Dr. Davis. He described ensol as an active ferment dissolving the cancer cell in the body without those unpleasant reactions on the patient associated with the remedial measures of the past. “It is far too early yet to speak with certainty about results, but so far the results are most encouraging,” he added.
“PROVED A FAILURE”
Dominion Special Service.
Dunedin, June 22
Dr. A. M. Begg, to whom Dr. Davis’s statement was referred, said to-night that ensol had been, tried by the imperial Cancer Research Fund in London, animals being used as subjects for treatment, but it had proved a failure. He was also under the impression that Dr. Hendry Connell, who had sent his discovery to London for experiment, had claimed that the cancer fund had Droved its practicability, but a disclaimer had immediately been written by Dr. Gye, director of the fund.
“At any rate,” Dr. Begg added, “such discoveries require some years of experiment before they can be pronounced a success or failure, and it is certainly too early to say what will be the ultimate result of the investigation.”
