OFFICIAL VISIT
Education Minister’s Tour
MANAWATU & TARANAKI The Minister of Education, Hon. P. Fraser, will leave Wellington early tomorrow on an official visit to the outer districts of Wellington, the Manawatu, and Taranaki. After inspecting the Otaki School, he will proceed to Levin, where he will hold a conference with the local school committee and representatives of the Wellington Education Board on the question of establishing a separate secondary school. In the afternoon The Minister will inspect the Weraroa training farm and will deal with matters relating to that institution. !
While en route to Palmerston North on Thursday morning, Mr. Fraser will stop at Shannon to hear a request by local people for the establishment of a district high school. He is due at Palmerston North a.t 11 a.m. In the afternoon the Minister will deal with Education and Health > Department matters, including a visit to the hospital and to a number of schools. He will receive deputations in the evening. The Minister will proceed on Friday •to Taranaki, where he will open a new school at Pihama. Later, he will go on to Waitara, where he will attend on Saturday morning the unveiling of the Sir Maui ‘Pomare monument.
Next Monday Mr. Fraser will confer with the Taranaki Education Board, the New Plymouth High School Board, the New Plymouth Hospital the New Plymouth Harbour Board. In the evening he will open the annual conference of the Taranaki School Committees’ Association. After visiting Eltham on Tuesday, he will go on to Feilding and then back to Palmerston North, arriving back in Wellington on Wednesday night, July 1. During his tour the Minister will be accompanied by the Director of Education, Mr. N. T. Lambourne.
