Auckland v. Wellington

Auckland, June 21. With the re-establishment of the Wellington Teachers’ Training College, the annual sports tournament between Auckland and Wellington student teachers has been reinstituted, and at the college at Epsom tennis teams of the rival colleges met in contest. The match resulted in a win for the Auckland team by seven matches to three. The tourney will be continued on Monday, and cu Tuesday afternoon the visitors will return south. Tennis results were as follow, Wellington names being given first: — Women’s singles: Miss J. Grainger beat Miss A. Burns, 9-5; Miss S. Phillips beat Miss P. Savin, 9-5. Men’s singles: G. Ross lost to D. Shaw, 3-9; H. Bice lost to W. Burcher, 4-9. Men’s doubles: D. Revell and R. Wilson lost to W. Turner and R. Jones, 5-9;. Ross and Bice lost to Shaw and Butcher. 8-9.
Women’s doubles: Misses M. Palmer Brown and J. Withers lost to Misses W. Richardson and F. Mackinnon, 5-9; Misses S. Phillips and J. Grainger beat Misses P. Savin and A. Bums. Mixed doubles: Wilson and Miss Withers lost to Turnc. and Miss Richardson, 7-9; Revell and Miss Brown lost to Jones and Miss Mackinnon, 5-9.
