RAILWAY REOPENED
Communication Between Wairoa & Raupimga
WORK ON BIG VIADUCT - ’ ■.4 By Telegraph—Press Association. Wairoa, June 19. Railway communication has been restored between Wairoa and Raupunga, a train leaving Wairoa this week with timber for the towers to be used in the construction of the Mohaka viaduct. The event caused considerable excitement among the children. One or two had never seen a train before and sev eral had never seen one, apart from the same engine when it was at Raupunga about a year and a half ago.
The length of line now open contains two tunnels, one the Waihua and the other the long tunnel, and several bridges, the Wairoa River bridge, the Waihua bridge and the big Maungataurahga viaduct The length of line open south of Wairoa ip more than 20 miles.
The camp at the Mohaka viaduct is now in occupation and preparatory work for the commencement of the huge Mohaka River viaduct is in progress.
