PLUNKET DANCES

Karori and Hataitai

Masses of full-berried holly were used to artistic advantage last night in St. Francis Hall, which the committee of the Karori Plunket Society had gone to a great deal of trouble to make as attractive as possible for their annual dance. Many golden chrysanthemums were also arranged on tables both in the lounge and supper room, toning charmingly wiUi the general colour scheme. This is tlie first time that this branch has departed from the usual practice of holding the annual dance in the Karori parish hall, the decision to take a larger floor having been brought about through the very large attendance last year. The com inittee need have had no fear that this decision was an over-ambitious one, judging by the “iber that comfortably filled St. Francis Hall last night, and they are to be congratulated on the success of their enterprise. The Plunket Ball

The various committees report good progress in tlie many preparations for the Plunket ball, which has come , to be looked upon as one of the most important social events of the year. Only a bare three weeks remain now before the actual date of the ball, and interest has become very widespread. It is expected that quite a number of country people will be present—several having announced their intention of bringing parties from the Wairarapa and other districts. The decorating committee has finalised an extremely attractive scheme, which will transform the Town Hall into something particularly picturesque. The announcement that debutantes would have the opportunity of “coming out” at the ball this year was received with much enthusiasm, and judging by the number of inquiries that: the secretary has received up to the present there will be quite a bevy of young girls who will make their bow on this occasion. Always an interesting feature of the Plunket ball, the ballets promise to be especially attractive, and rehearsals are in full swing for the two ballets to be presented this year. Tlie first will consist of 20 girls, whom Miss Estelle Beere has in training, and Mrs. Phil Cooke is in charge of the other ballet, which will be made up of. 16 girls.
