GREEK ARCHBISHOP
Welcomed by Wellington Compatriots CHILDREN BAPTISED Many Wellington Greeks, as well as some from other centres, gathered at the Pan-Hellenic Association’s rooms last night to extend a welcome to Archbishop Timotheos Evangeli nicies, head of the Greek Orthodox Church in Australia, New Zealand and Oceania. The Consul for Greece, Mr. Frank Dyer, who was accompanied by Mrs. Dyer, took the chair. He formally greeted the Archbishop ou behalf of local Greeks. He expressed the pleasure felt by Hellenic citizens here in Wellington at: the Archbishop’s visit, and recalled that his Grace had last been in New Zealand three years ago. The Archbishop gave a long and interesting address, which held the rapt attention of those, present. Yesterday morning the Archbishop held a service in St. Peter’s Church, when a large congregation of Greeks, accompanied by the consul, attended. In the afternoon the Archbishop christened a number of Greek children, according to the rites of the Orthodox Church. To-day he is to leave Wellington for Palmerston North, where also there are many of his compatriots looking forward eagerly to his visit.
