FAREWELL TO MISSIONARY
Miss Melva Short, of Auckland, is the latest recruit from New Zealand to the work of the Church of England Zenana Missionary Society, and to meet her and bid her every success in her new career a large number of the C.M.S. members in Wellington were invited to tea in the C.M.S. rooms recently. The ladies’ committee were hostesses, and in the absence of Mrs. Wallis, the chairwoman, Miss B. Humphries welcomed the guests and introduced the speakers. Tea was served in the big, sunny room, made brighter by a glowing fire and great jars of holly berries. After Miss Dinnean and Miss Smythe had outlined some of the conditions in China, Miss Short told of how a legacy received two years ago. had enabled her to leave the office where she had worked .for six years. Now her call had come to serve abroad, and she asked for. the prayers of those present for her work.
A second object of the party was the launching of the campaign for linen for the Hangchow Hospital. This appeal brought a generous respouse from the guests. Mr. Goldsmith closed the meeting with good wishes to Miss Short, followed by the benediction.
