Support for an immigration schem” on the lines of that proposed in the Auckland Province was given by the North Taranaki executive of the Farmers’ Union to-day when grave anxiety was ex-pressed reg.ii'ding the farm labour position in the coming production season. It was said that fanners eoulfl not hope to compete with public works wages of £4 for a five-day week. The Auckland scheme proposed the immigration of young single men selected carefully to ensure their usefulness to New Zealand fanners.
