It is aiiiioiiiiecd in the London Gazette to-night that the coronation of King Edward Will will take place in Westminster Abbey on Wednesday. May 12, next year. The date was formally approved bj’ his .Majesty at a meeting of the Privy Council Ulis morning at Buckingham Palace, attended by several Cabinet Ministers, the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Ear! Marshal. To-morrow morning the coronation will he proclaimed bj’ heralds at St. James's Palace, Charing Cross. Temple Bar and the Royal Exchange.

Tlie proclamation will be couched in traditional phraseology. It is established that tlie Committee of Claims, which decides who are entitled to attend the King to the coronation ceremony, lias dispensed w'th the attendance of persons claiming to perform ancient services in Westminster Hall or in the procession, thereby eliminating the ceremonies at the coronation banquet when a steel-clad royal champ’on formerly rode in, threw down a gauntlet and challenged other claimants to the throne. This was last seen when George IV was crowned in 1821. It is expected that the coronation festivities, including (lie procession through London, will be linked with the Wh'tsuntide holidays.
