ISLAND BAY R.S.A.

Past Year’s Activities The annual report of the Island Bay auxiliary committee of the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association states that at the beginning of the year the number of men requiring assistance was 42, but a reduction of almost 50 per cent, was made during the year, the total at the time of making the report being 23. One hundred and ninety-eight men were for 697 days, the subsidy paid by the R.S.A. totalling £144, and seven men were found 19 days’ work without subsidy. The membership of the auxiliary reached tj-l, but thio is believed to be only portion of the returned soldiers living in the district. Christmas cheer was provided for practically all unemployed ex-service-men in the district, and a Christmas party was held for the children of returned soldiers. Other social activities included the annual smoke concert, dances and euchre tournaments.
