Fanner-Politicians

Sir, —Would you kindly allow me a little space to reply to Mr. AV. J. Polson hi reference to a statement he made at his Alasterton meeting. Mr. Polson was reported as having said that there was not a man in the Labour Government who understood farming. Surely this is a most extraordinary statement for the president of the Farmers’ Union to make I Does Air. Polson claim to be. the only authority in the House on farming? There are quite a few members in the Government who can claim to be just as much an authority on farming as the hon. member for Stratford. The Hou. Air. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, is the owner of a farm which is regarded as being a model one. Mr. Ormond Wilson is a successful farmer who has also made a study of agricultural problems abroad as well as being a graduate of Oxford University. Then there are Messrs. Ben Roberts, Cullen and Barclay. lam sure, sir, any of these gentlemen will compare favourably with the Dominion president of the Farmers Union as a farmer. —I am, etc., BE FAIR, Dannevirke, May 26.
