Tito monthly meeting of the Hutt Valley Women’s Division of the farmers’ Union was held in St. Hilda's Hall recently, when Mrs. Hawthorn presidt'd over a large attendanee. The monthly competition, the host covered coat hanger, was keenly contested, ami produced a large display ol betiutllul handwork. The winner was Mrs. Liusay. will) Mrs. M. Benge second. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. L’errj and Mrs. Peck.
A cucumber that is being used for salads can be given a frilled appearance by drawing a fork sharply and deeply down the green skin all round before slicing. Another way with encumber is to score it lengthways wi h a sharp knife and to peel off alternate strips. The slices will then have a “crimped” look.
