FALSE PRETENCE
Man Found Guilty at Napier By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, May 20. A verdict of guilty against Hans Peter Mortensen, of Auckland, on one charge of obtaining money by a false pretence, and not guilty on three similar charges, was returned by a jury at the Supreme Court this afternoon. The charges concerned the obtaining of money for shares in the Tangarakau Coal Mining Company by falsely representing that Mr. YVilliam Goodfellow was chairman of directors. A jury also returned a guilty verdict on charges of breaking, entering and theft by night and theft from a dwelling against Martin i’erauiko, alias Bobby Martin, a young Maori labourer, of Tikokino. The jury entered a strong recommendation for mercy.
