WORKERS’ UNION
Important Conference Delegates from both islands are attending the twentieth annual conference of the New Zealand YVorkers’ Union, which was opened in the Trades Hall YVellington, yesterday, by Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Public-Works. The conference w’ill continue for a week. In opening the conference Ylr. Semple dealt particularly with the Public YVorks workers’ agreement that will come into operation on June 1, and with the work of the Labour Government generally. At the conclusion of his remarks he was accorded a v °t e of thanks, delegates expressing confidence in the Prime Minister, Kt. Hon. M. J. Savage, and his Cabinet. The conference, which will be the most important in the history of the organisation, will have numerous matters to deal with concerning the drafting of claims for the many activities it covers in the agricultural and pastoral industries. A greater part of yesterday was occupied in discussing routine business and setting up committees. The most important decision reached was that of affiliating with the. New Zealand Labour Party, the decision being made unanimously. Delegates attending the conference are:—Mr. C. E. Baldwin, Christchurch, retiring president: Mr. R. Eddy. Ylarlborough industrial district; Ylr. C. Grayndler, Wellington, and Hon. F. I*3. Lark, YI.L.C.. Auckland. North Island construction workers: Mr. J. Gill, Eltham. nnd Mr. R.
