Domestic Servants’ Union
Sir, —I live in the baekblocks of this province and am a regular reader of "The Dominion,” nnd get a great deal of amusement out of some of the letters to the editor (poor editor, what he has to Buffer!). There was the. letter of a “Harassed Mother.” Now why is she harassed? Because she is even more incompetent than the “impertinent” maid she complains about. If she were not she would stay at home and supervise the maid and help her to become efficient in her work (especially as she ie a social worker). And now “Jemima” rushes in and says “That women in New Zealand arc lack-' ing in initiative and have no idea how to treat a girl in their employ.” Well! ■Well! "Jemima,” I think you are wrong. I'm sure that if I could talk to you for a short time I could convince you that the majority of women in New Zealand are as efficient an any in the world, so don't run away with the idea that because one harassed mother writes piffle to the papers that all New Zealand women are to be judged by her standard. I’m quite sure that a domestic servants’ union would go a long way to bring more efficient service all round. —I am, etc 11. COLE. Nelson, May IS.
