An Air Ministry
Sir, —Now that the institution of an Air Ministry appears to be within measurable distance, it is perhaps appropriate to remark that consideration might be given to the Salmond Report on New Zealand’s air defence. This valuable report, which was handed to the Defence Department in October, 1928, and which ranks in importance with tho Jellicoe Report on naval defence and the Kitchener Report on military defence, is running the risk of passing into oblivion without ever having been duly considered by any of our Governments. In approaching the institution of such a Ministry there are many matters to lie considered, as your sub-leader of May 18 points out, and it would be a great pity if we (both lay and military minds' do not avail ourselves freely of the. advice and inspiration contained in this report compiled by Air Marshal Sir John Salmond (now a Marshal of the Royal Air Force). —I am, etc., 11. S. MONTGOMERIE. Wanganui, May 18, 1936.
