NAVAL RESERVISTS
Mine-sweeping Practice Dominion Special Service. Auckland, May 18. Mine-sweeping practice in the Hauraki Gulf was carried out to-day by the sloops Wellington and Leith, in conjunction with the mine-sweeper IVakakura. The operations, which will continue until Thursday, are for the training of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, ratings. The ratings on the Wakakura will embark ou the sloops at 9.30 iu the morning to take part in manoeuvres during the day. After dark there will be a realistic night “encounter.” Further exercises will l>e carried out on Wednesday aud on Thursday morning the ships will practise sweeping with the use of a dummy mine. Tlie sloops will return to the Devonport base on Thursday evening.
