TWO MEN FIGHT ON QUEEN’S WHARF

Magistrate’s Court Cases On charges of fighting each other, Patrick Roach, aged 37, a metalworker, aud Patrick Higgins, aged 41, a labourer, were each convicted and fined £1 and costs by Mr. W. F. Stilwell, S.M., in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, yesterday. Higgins pleaded guilty aud Roach "guilty in self-defence.” Constable L. L. Kelly said ou Saturday night he saw two meu fighting on Queen’s Wharf. When witness arrived Higgins was getting up from the giound. Both eyes were blackened aud he was bleeding freely. Witness asked Roach what had happened, aud Roach said Higgins had used obscene language when women were passing. False Pretences Charge Charged with obtaining a cheque for £62/10/- from Wright, Stephenson and Co. on February 10 by falsely representing a certain motor-car was his own property, Norman Kenneth Sligo, aged 36. an engineer, was remanded until May 25. Detective-Sergeant L. B. Revell said Sligo was arrested on Saturday and some other charges were pending. Tried to “Gate-crash” James Sharp, aged 29, a labourer, was convicted and lined 5/- and costs for drunkenness and £2 and costs for breaking a glass pane to the extent of 15/-. He was also ordered to make good the damage. Sub-Inspector C. E. Roach said Sharp, who pleaded guilty, had got drunk on Saturday and tried to push his way into a private party in a bouse in Tinakori Road. He was told to go away and broke a glass panel lu the front door.
