Trams to Kaiwarra (From "The Dominion," May 20, 1911.) At a meeting of the Onslow Borough Council, Councillor Bowden moved the following rather important motion: — “That a deputation consisting of members of the Onslow Borough Council be appointed to wait on the Wellington City Council in order to urge the desirability of extending the tramways from the present terminus at Thorndon Esplanade to Kaiwarra as speedily as possible.”- The motion was put and carried. * * - The airship Parseval II was blown against a hangar (shed) at Bitterfeld, Germany, causing it to burst and collapse. w * * "I propose to start a crusade against the whole of tbe taxicabs in Wellington within a fortnight," remarked the Mayor last night when moving on behalf of the finance committee of the Wellington City Council that Mr. D. O. Spry, of the fire brigade staff, be appointed motor expert and electrician by the City Council to inspect taxicabs and generally to look after the maintenance of the fire brigade motors, and be attached to the electrical department. The Mayor went on to say that tbe committee wished to prevent cars running (as it was known one did) every day for a week without a break. The proposal was that Mr. Spry should examine all taxicabs and motor-cars licensed by the council. They had got to sueh a state of things in Wellington, owing to the rate of speed travelled at, etc., that the council wanted a man who knew what lie was about and who would not be “fooled.”
