The oilier game on this ground was the Huia-Wesley fixture. Reasonably dry fields enabled toe playing of good-quality hockey well up to senior expectations. HUIA v. WESLEY Wesley's showing against Huia at Nai Nai No. 2 ground was disappointing, the final score being 7-2 in favour of the latter. Wheatley was the thorn in th*' side of the losers and netted six out of tile seven goals. Some of them were of the stinging kind that almost any goalkeeper would have trouble in stopping. Wesley’s custodain, Bremner, who gave so successful an exhibition on the previous Saturday against University, was up against a tougher situation against Huia, and wa» not seen to such advantage. Brownsecured Hula's other goal. The scorers for Wesley were Smith and Moloney, both of whose goals c.-.mc before half-time, at the call of which the scoreboard read : Huia 3. Wesley 2. Ki idencc of points learned from the Indians was .seen in this game us m others in senior grade this season, th" hockey -being fast ami well worth watching. Although Wesley at’ one stage were a goal ahead of their opponents, the almo.-machine-liko short passing rushes ot tu«? VARSITY Varsilv showed signs of intensive truim ing in their match with Hutt at Karori Park, and a draw would no more than have represented their share of the hoiv ours in a game which was fast and hard and full of interest. They certainly seemed the litter team, am] they very nearlj caught their opponents napping at the start having the red goalkeeper working hard’ within ten seconds of the initial bU Hiitt soon pulled themselves together, and after forcing the pace for some time file front line went away well for Judd to score a good goal. Their wing movements invariably looked dangerous, but poor response‘from the inside men and erratic stick work in the circle disorganised their attacks. Hutt recovered and after several attacks Phillips scored from a melee in the circle. New Zealand captain Eddie McLeod was once more in the field as centre-hslf for Hutt, and gave his team every reason to hope that be would finish out the season.
