MISS JEAN BATTEN
Two Trophies Awarded Loudon, May 14. In recognition of her South Atlantic flight. Miss Jean Batten, the New Zealand flyer, has been awarded tbe Royal Aero Club’s Britannia Trophy for 1935 for the most meritorious performance of the year, and also the Harman International Aviatrlx Trophy for 1935, adjudicated by the world-wide Ligue International des Aviateurs, In recognition of the greatest advance in aviation. The latter honour will be conferred publicly, together with the gold medal of the patron of the Ligue, the King of the Belgians.
The Britannia Trophy is the blue riband of British aviation and is awarded by the Royal Aero Club to the British aviator who, in the opinion of tbe committee, has accomplished the most meritorious performance in the air during the year. The Hon. Lady Bailey, D.8.L., who won it in 1929 for her African flight, is the only other woman to have been awarded the trophy.
