The second series of matchers in the first round of the Wellington women’s hockey grade championships will be played this afternoon. The main attraction will be on Kilbirnie No. 1 between Swifts and the promoted Porirua team Toa, and a fast, interesting game is anticipated. This match will start at 3 p.m. and will be preceded on the same ground with another senior A contest between Technical College Old Girls (2) and Poneke, commencing at 2 p.m. At Newtown Park, College Old Girls meet Varsity on No. 1 at 3 p.m., while at Woburn Hutt United will meet Huia at 3 p.m. In the senior B division two of the leading teams, St. Joseph’s and Upper Hutt, meet on Maidstone Park, Upper Hutt, at 2.30 p.m.; Hutt play Poneke at Newtown Park No. 2, 2 p.m.; Wesley v. Wenerei, Newtown Park No. 2, 3 p.m.; Technical Old Girls v. Hospital, Newtown Park No. 1,2 p.m. Lower grade matches will be played at Nairn Street Reserve.

The Wellington harrier clubs will hold their weekly runs this afternoon. The Brooklyn club will be the guests of Mr. J. Barclay, Wilton Road, Wadestown. The Hutt Valley club will hold its novice race and president’s handicap at Hutt Park. The Methodist elub will hold its novice race at Miramar. The Olympic club will assemble at Brooklyn. The Presbyterian and Scottish clubs will hold novice races at the Miramar tennis court®. The Wellington club will run a maiden handicap race for the E. J. Green Cup at Miramar. Road Cycling. The Poneke Cycling Chib will open its 1936 road season this afternoon with an 11-miles race for the 0. Hughes Cup. The race will start from the Miramar Wharf at 2.30, and the course followed will be from the Miramar Wharf down the straight, past the power-house and turning into Salek Street, and then Coutts Street, down Kingsford Smith Street, to the left, passing Moa Point, Breaker Bay cutting, Seatoun, Worser Bay, and continuing around the bay past the Massey memorial and finishing on the Miramar Wharf straight. Club will open its road season at Island Bay this afternoon with a 21-milcs race, starting from Derwent Street. The race will be over two circuits of the Happy Valley-Island Bay-Lyall Bay course, finishing at Derwent Street. The Petone club will also open the 193 b season to-day with a 15-miles race, starting at 2.15 p.m. The Golf Card. 'The qualifying round for the Prince of Wales’ Cup, in conjunction with a handicap medal round, will be played on the Miramar links this afternoon. A fourball bogey competition, in which a senior and a junior player will be partners, will be played ou the Hutt course to-day. • A Stableford competition will be played on the Manor Park links this afternoon. The Shandon club will play its monthly bogey competition this afternoon. The second round for the Lachlan trophy must be played this week-end. A Stableford bogey competition will b« played on the Titahi links this afternoon. A stroke competition will be played by the Karori ladies’ club this afternoon. The Manor Park ladies’ club will play the first round for the captain’s trophy over 36 holes this afternoon. A match will be played between the Tui Glen and Strathmore Park clubs tomorrow. Both men’s and women’s teams will take part. A Stableford competition will be played on the Strathmore Park links to-day. A fourball competition will be played on the Tui Glen links to-morrow. A flag competition figures on the Strathmore Park ladies’ club’s card for this afternoon.
