HOSPITAL LAY-OUT

Expert in Wellington LECTURE TO BE GIVEN With the object of securing the fullest available information on modern hospital lay-out and construction methods, the Wellington Hospital Board recently arranged to confer with a firm of architects which specialised in hospital lay-out and construction. The firm of Stephenson, Meldrum and Turner, Melbourne and Sydney, was invited to send a representative to Wellington to confer with the board. Mr. G. A. Stephenson has arrived in Wellington in response to that invitation, and after making a preliminary survey of the building problems involved has given the board an outline of what in his opinion should be done to bring the hospital into line with the latest teaching in hospital construction and services in other countries.

Mr. Stephenson addressed a combined meeting of the Hospital Board and the honorary staff on hospital problems. The lecture was illustrated with many fine lantern slides showing how the iwspital building problem is being attacked in other countries, including Great Britain, America and Europe. He stressed the fact that our hospitals in New Zealand are provided with the most offleient medical and nursing services, but that they lagged behind in modern mechanics and equipment. The board has decided that in view of the building' reorganisation that must take place, spread over the next few years, it should avail itself of the services offered by Mr. Stephenson, in conjunction with the board’s own architect. . With a view to bringing before the public the necessity for hospital advancement, Mr. Stephenson has been asked to give a public lecture, illustrated with lantern slides, demonstrating the way in which hospital building problems are being faced in other countries.
