PRODUCE MARKETS Potatoes Firm, With Brisk Inquiries By' Telegraph. —Press Association. Christchurch, May 15. Potatoes are very firm with plenty of inquiries from all northern ports; f.o.b ; sales are being made from £6/5/- to £G 10/-, with Sutton’s Supreme at £6/7/6. Supplies are not coming to hand very quickly, but a continuation of fine weather should see increased deliveries. Farmers are apparently not really sellers of large quqantities at the moment. The Karetu loaded 2300 sacks from Timaru this week and 5400 from Lyttelton. Inquiries are still being received from Auckland for shipments ahead. There is not much moving in the onion market, and as far as one can gather quotations remain the same as last week, at £5/10/- to £6, f.o.b. North Island markets appear to be better supplied than was anticipated, and at the moment are not looking to the .South for their requirements. Growers would be wise not to build too heavily on any immediate prospects of Sydney markets according to advices received locally. The present has been a very poor season for Canterbury onions for quality, and it is problematical whether growers could take advantage of the Australian market in the even of Commonwealth prices materially improving. A better inquiry for chaff is reported, up to £2/15/- a ton being paid for lots on trucks at near stations. Good inquiry obtains for feed barley, up to 2/6 being paid for best lines. The markets for oats and fowl wheat are quiet, with prices unchanged, and the same can be said of small see ds. SOUTHERN WHEAT HARVEST Dominion Special Service. Dunedin, May 15. The latest information regarding the season’s return of milling wheat is extremely satisfactory, and it is now stated there is little likelihood of any wheat being required from ovrseas to make up a deficency. So far as Canterbury mills are concerned it is stated that they have secured their full requirements for the season and more has been offering to Otago mills from the Methven and Ashburton districts than has been the case for some considerable time. This wheat, which is of fair average milling quality, is from stacked wheat which is now being threshed. Otago mills, generally speaking, have almost secured their full complement of wheat for the season. Butter Market Very Firm By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, May 14.
