LANDING IN DARK
Unusual Descent at Rongotai Returning from Christchurch yesterday in Hie Puss Moth machine in which he and Mr. F. D. Herrick, Hawke’s Bay, intend to fly to England via the East and Russia, Mr. F. C. Chichester. Wellington, made a landing in the dark at Rongotai aerodrome. Flares were lit on the ground to guide him to the best part of the aerodrome into the wind and he made a first-class landing, getting in some practice at a type of descent that he may of necessity have to adopt on the long flight to come. Night, landings are unusual in New Zealand. Hie first in public Iteing by the late Sir Charles Kingsford Smith in the Southern Cross at Hastings. Mr. Chichester, however, is no stranger to them, having made several, on his aerial tour of Europe and his flight to Australia. The Puss Moth will bo flown to Aucklai t on Monday, and there it will be overhauled before being (Shipped to Australia.
