It is reported that the League Conn cil this evening appointed Mr. Lester High Commissioner for another year, on the request of botli the Danzig Senate and the Polish Government. During a two hours’ sitting, the Council hurried through a long agenda paper at top speed. It now stands adjourned until June 15. There was a lively argument, it is stated, in the course of a private session regarding a report submitted to the Slavery Committee by the Italian Government According to Press telegrams, the upshot was that the report was circularised to members of the Slavery Committee with a note attached that the contents bad been communicated by a military authority occupying foreign territory in violation of the Covenant. The main business at the public session was an offer of seats on the Council to China, as representative of Asia, and to some one of the smaller European Powers not belonging to one of the already recognised regional groups. This recommendation was referred to the Assembly for consideration in September.
