City Council Unemployment Relief Funds Reference to the fact that the £7OOO allocated by the city for the relief of unemployment for three months would run out on June 16 was made by the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, at the Wellington City Council meeting last night. That being so, the Mayor said, it would be necessary to close down some of the works before that date in order that others might be left in a completed Cr. P. Butler said that the Government should be approached without delay to see if any assistance could lie forthcoming from that quarter. The Mayor said that the council would shortly be in the position of having expended all the money available for relief work, and it would not be able therefore to subsidise any Government grant. At tiie present time 280 men were being employed. He had discussed the matter in a general way with Mr. W. Bromley and would take it up with him again at a later date.
