MORE LABOUR LAWS
Important Legislation To Come ‘HARDLY STARTED YET’ Compensation For Workers “I have hardly started yet,” said the Minister of Labour, Hon. H. T. Armstrong, when asked last evening whether he iiad any more important labour legislation to bring down this session. The Minister said that his next important measure would l>e a Workers’ Compensation Bill, on which the law draftsman was at present engaged This, he said, would be more talked about than any measure he had yet introduced. While non-committal about the provisions of the Bill, Mr. Armstrong indicated that it would contain far-reaching amendments to the existing legislation. It might not be ready for presentation to the House of Representatives before the prospective midwinter recess. Asked whether the Bill would make provision for the establishment, if necessary, of a separate court to deal solely with eases under the Workers’ Compensation Act, the Minister would say nothing definite. “It may be found when the Bill comes down,” he said, “that there will be no need for a separate court.”
