GOING NORTH

Diamond and Korero NOTES AND COMMENTS Rama’s Horses Miss Marton (By The Watcher.) it has been decided to send Diamond and Korero to the Waikato and Auckland meetings. Diamond suffered no ill-effects from his fall on Tuesday, and he is to contest the Waikato Steeplechase. Ou his showing a decision will be made regarding his Great Northern engagements. He will be ridden by R. K. Smith. Korero is partial to winter going, and as he ran prominently at the Auckland Easter meeting, and has done well since, he appears to have good prospects of paying his way. So far no rider has been engaged for him. Change of Plans. H. Rama has decided not to race his team at Marton,'but the other part of hD North Island trip will be gone on with. He expects to leave early next week with Horowhenua, Tooley Street, and Horotiu, and will race them at the Waikato and Auckland meetings. Schooling at Te Rapa. At Te Rapa on Tuesday morning Prince of Orange and Grand Score wenassociated over four hurdles, both giving a fast and clever display. King Win and Summerhill gave an indifferent display over a round of hurdles, the latter especially failing to jump with any dash. Te Monatekapa handled two hurdles in the straight in satisfactory style. Au interesting schooling bout over country was given by Windsor Lad, Allegretto and Diacquedoon. ' Te Monatekapa was to have gone with them, but refused at the first fence, the brush at the top of the straight. At the second fence, the post and rails, Diacquedoon fell, but was subsequently remounted and continued on behind Windsor Lad and Allegretto, both of whom gave a good display, especially the former, who has benefited by the experience he has gained in the hunting field. After completing the round Diacqticdoon negotiated the brush at the top of the straight again, but in coming to the post and rails he failed to rise and threw Cotter heavily. Fortunately neither horse nor rider was injured. Sporting Song. Sporting Song will probably fulfil his engagement at the Waipa meeting, and will be ridden by J. Mcßae. This Hunting Song gelding ran a fair race over hurdles on the first day at Egmont, but he let his party down very badly on the flat on the second day. Heavy Going. Reports from the far south indicate that the tracks at Invercargill are very heavy. Vocal. The Hunting Song horse Vocal, who has been off the scene for about a year, figures among the nominations for the Timaru meeting. Half Note. Half Note, who has not been raced since the last New Zealand Cup meeting, is getting through useful work and rounding up into racing shape. Over Longer Journeys. Silver Streak made a poor showing in the Great Autumn Handicap last month, but be has won at a mile, and with heavy weights to carry now in sprint events, he is to be tried again over a journey at Ashburton, /where A. E. Ellis will ride him. BlackmanMr. J. Bull’s Nigger Minstrel gelding Blackman, is now trained by J. F. Tutchen at Te Rapa. He has lately been galloping well on the tracks, and is expected to make a showing at the Waipa meeting tomorrow. Paddon’s Half-brother. Grand Score has been schooling well over hurdles at Te Rapa, and the. trackwatchers there are confident he will run well at Waipa. Grand Score is a halfbrother to Paddon, but he has never given the same promise of being so good, as his forte has been sprinting, whereas Paddon could run a good middle distance. Cynical Kid. Cynical Kid is back on the tracks at Hawera. He did not pay up for his Marton engagement, but he has been qualified and entered for northern events. Dancing Lady Sold. Mr. S. Brindle, owner-trainer of Dancing Lady, disposed of the mare at Hawera last week to Mr. F. W. Ehrborn, who recently lost Gay Chief. Dancing Lady showed ■ promise early in her career, but latterly has not shown up iu her races. Kept Going. ' Queen of Song and Kinnoull have been kept going since the Easter meeting at Riccarton, and it is intended that each nhall race at Washdyke next week. Hunting Go. Hunting Go has been nominated for the two principal flat races at the South Canterbury meeting. He has done a little schooling over hurdles, and will probably ho tried in public in this department before long. , Mangukaha. While galloping at Te Rapa ou Tuesday morning in company with Parquet, the Little .England mare, Mangukaha, scalped herself above the coronet. The injury fortunately is not serious, and will not prevent her starting nt Te Awamutu. Foxton Entries.
