WEEK-END ACCIDENTS
Child’s Skull Fractured FALL FROM MOTOR-CYCLE Three people were seriously injured and several others less severely in accidents which occurred during the week-end. At midday yesterday, Gordon Ham ilton, aged 11, of Gloucester Road, Sil verstream, was riding a horse on which another boy was also sitting when the ’animal slipped on the bitumen. The boys Were thrown heavily to the ground, but whereas Hamilton suffered a fracture of the base of the skull nnd concussion, his companion escaped with a shaking. Dr. A. B. Sternberg was summoned and the boy was taken to hospital by the Free Ambulance. His condition was later reported to be serious. Knocked down by a car in Jackson Street, Petone. shortly after 7.45 p.m. on Saturday, Mr. G. Hughes, an elderly man, living at 27 Aurora Street, Petone, suffered a fractured left thigh and right leg. After being attended by Dr. J. T. Harding, he was taken to hospital by the Free Ambulance and his condition is reported to be serious. Travelling on his motor-cycle on the Plitnmerton Road about 3.45 p.m. on Saturday, Mr. McLeod Davidson, of Dannevirke, a traveller, was thrown from has machine when it skidded on a corner. He was taken to hospital with head injuries and severe concussion. He is reported to be in a serious condition. Mr. D. Kingan, an elderly man living at Kaiwarra, had his right shoulder injured when he was knocked down by a motor-car at Thorndon at 1.45 a'm. yesterday. He was taken to hosnital. ' ... .. . Mri S. Townsend', a watersider, of 10 Arthur Street, suffered an injury to his ribs on the right side when he was Struck by a falling plank while working’ the Tainui at Glasgow Wharf, at 0.50 a.m. on Saturday. The Free Ambulance took him to hospital. Mrs. I. Butler, of 8 Bute Street, fractured her right forearm at 5.20 a.m. on Saturday, when she fell down some concrete steps while working at Hope Gibbons buildings. She was taken to hospital.'
