N.Z.-bred Winner. Capris, the winner of the thousand pound stake at Brisbane on Saturday, is owned by Mr. C. M. Emmanuel, of Auckland, and is trained at Sydney. Capns is a four-year-old mare by Captain Bunsby from Charfe, by Luculhis.

Another Start. The five-year-old Marcus Cicero (Hunting Song—Oratress), who was taken to Australia two seasons ago by C. Emerson, will shortly go into T. R. George s Stable. Marcus Cicero won as a two-year-old, but disappointed on his Sydney trip, and he has not raced since.

Adelaide Hurdle Winner. An interesting item about the Austral - ian racing news is the win of Tenterden over hurdles at Adelaide. Tenterden, now an eTght-year-old, is by Chief Kuler from Roscllate. and was bred at Westmere by Mr’; John Donald. He did. his racing here in the Elgar livery, being trained by W. Moroney. Some of his form was really good class, and he' won the Wellington Stakes as a two-year-old, but he did not always produce that standard. He may make a name for hmiselt at the jumping game.

The Royal Stud. . It is cabled that the King has decided to close the Royal Stud at and fhe brood mares are to be transferred to Hampton Park. The Hampton Court stud was famous in Queen Victorin s day. It was there that the Derby winner, Sainfoin, was bred, also the great ma're, La Fleehe. Queen Victoria had little interest in racing, and tbe yearlings bred at Hampton Court were sold annually. John Porter was able to buy Sainfoin on behalf of one of his clients for 550gns. Le Fleehe cost Baron Hirsch 5500gns. He was well rewarded, for La Fleehe won the One Thousand Guineas, Oaks and St. Leger. She was beaten a head in the Derby. The Sandringham stud was formed in 1877- with the idea of breeding better class horses than were then carrying the Royal colours. One of the first Sandringham mares 11, bought on the advice of John Porter for OOOgns. She was the dam of Persimmon, winner of the Derby and the St. Leger; Diamond Jubilee, Two Thousand Guineas, Derby and St. Leger; and Florizel'll, a first-ela&s racehorse and sire of the Derby winner Volodyovski.

Closely Related. Fairway, sire of the winner of the. Ope Thousand Guineas and the Two Thousand Guineas, Is of interest to New Zealanders, inasmuch as he. is related closely to Phaleron Bay. who is lociited at Mr. John Donald’s Westmere stud.
